Volunteer

Art Literacy is a year-long program designed to give students the opportunity to learn about different artists and forms of art. Volunteers will attend a monthly group training session, present a slideshow about the feature artist to a class, and assist students with making their art productions. All lessons and materials are provided, and no experience or art background is necessary. It's all about having fun while being creative!

Art literacy training sessions*: *There is no training in September, December, March, and June.

Volunteers are always encouraged to come support the various library operations throughout the school year: student check-out, book cataloging, book re-shelving, book repair, and reading programs. 

OBOB-Oregon Battle of the Books

Oregon Battle of the books is a year long reading competition program that relies heavily on volunteer support. Volunteers can help with team organization, battle scheduling, printing, cutting and sorting battles. During battles, volunteers can help with reading questions, acting as time and score keeping.
Regional battles require at least 3 volunteers from each school. Regionals are typically in the early spring and require a Saturday commitment.

OSOB-One School, One Book

One School, One Book is a school-wide reading event done every other year in which a book is chosen for the entire school community to read together. Sponsored by the PTO, volunteer support comes from working with our LMA to determine the number of books needed, ordering books, sorting the books by class and passing out books.

Bingo Night is Errol Hassell’s first PTO sponsored family event of the year. This 2 hour event has a committee of volunteers that work together to organize the event. This includes making flyers, organizing bingo games; including, number of games and rules, prizes-both acquisition and distribution, set-up, clean up, and concessions.

Day of the event needs volunteers to help set up tables in the gym, give out popcorn tickets, bingo caller, prize distribution, work concessions, popcorn, act as a runner, hand out new game boards, clean up etc..

The Hornet Hustle is Errol Hassell’s primary PTO fundraiser. This event has a committee of volunteers that work together to ensure a smooth event. Volunteer committee members are responsible for working with our Office Staff to set up our fundraising platform, create flyers and design bulletin boards for advertising and tracking donations by class, coming up with and securing donations for prizes, and seeking outside sponsorships.
Day of event support includes: track monitoring, lap markers and helping at the treat table.

Planning should begin towards the end of the year to prepare for the following school year.

Volunteers needed to assist photographer set-up/clean-up and organize students to facilitate the photo-taking process during Picture Day and Picture Re-Take Day.

Volunteers are needed to assist in basic Hearing and  vision screening.  Volunteers needed to guide students, administer exams and process forms.  Teams of paired volunteers work with each student to read an eye chart.  Students not passing the exam are referred to the School Nurse.

Reading is Fun Night is an event for families to come and hear stories read by people in various careers and backgrounds. This is a teacher lead event that needs some volunteer support. Volunteers may be needed to create and distribute flyers and possibly help out during the event.

Book Fair is an opportunity for students to purchase books through Scholastic. Volunteers are needed to coordinate with scholastic to promote the fair with various advertising provided by scholastic. Work with LMA to schedule shopping days for students, set up and take down the book fair.

Our Winter Book Fair will be held November 12-15. 

November 12th will be our Family Shopping Event from 3pm-6pm, and will coincide with our Reading is Fun Event!

November 12-15. Student will be able to shop during their Library Specials. 

The book fair will also be open from 2:35- 3:15 for additional shopping time for parents. Students may not shop after school without an adult present.

STEAM Night is a teacher-led event geared towards giving families the opportunity to engage with their students in various activities geared towards Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.

Volunteers are needed to help create flyers, passport cards for the different activities and support during the event.

Spring Dance is a PTO sponsored event. Students can come dance to music provided by a DJ, and enjoy snacks. A committee of volunteers would help to plan the dance, set up and clean up, handle admissions, advertising, and concessions. 

Day of event volunteers are needed to help with setting up,admissions, selling concessions, acting as a runner, and cleaning up after the event.

The Carnival is our final PTO event of the year and also our biggest. We have a committee of volunteers to manage the various tasks to make the event successful. The committee members each take the lead on the following tasks: admissions and outdoor activities, food/concessions, arcade, prizes, flyers and signage, and set up and clean up. 

Planning for the carnival begins in Feb/Mar.

Restaurant Nights is a series of nights set up throughout the year to raise money for the PTO. Restaurant night coordinator works with local restaurants to sponsor a restaurant night where a portion of the sales is donated back to the school. Volunteers will be responsible for setting up the event, printing and distributing flyers for each event. 3-5 events based on PTO needs.

Volunteers on the yearbook committee are responsible for creating class photos for every class, taking pictures at school events and collecting photos taken throughout the year by teachers and staff to create a yearbook sold at the end of the year.
